Mike Matteson is an octopus; writing psychedelic lyrics with one arm, making doom metal riffs with another arm, and recording garage rock drums with another arm, while also writing drone metal, acoustic grunge, blues, punk, and fuzz rock at the same time. His current live outfit is the garage rock power trio Mike Matteson & The Sketchy Freaks, with frequent collaborators Noah Kolb (played with Mike Matteson in Toxic Shock, Stumphead, Seption, and The Lizard People) and Michael Gisli Albert (Seption and The Lizard People). Mike Matteson is making something for everyone, so if you don’t like his latest release, just wait a few months for the next one.
Mike Matteson does everything. He plays all the instruments, writes all the music, and explores all the genres. He's been in bands playing blues, punk, alternative, sludge metal, and balls-out rock and roll. He self-released two solo albums, an album with The Polychromatics, and a collaborative album with Michael Gisli Albert in 2017. He signed with Mad Dragon Records to release his first project of 2018, Chocolate Milk, an EP that sounds like the soundtrack to a rock and roll party somewhere in southern California. Mike Matteson has plans to release two psychedelic/alternative albums, a drone metal album, a doom metal album, a fuzz rock album, and a space punk EP in the next year. You can see him live from Philadelphia to Phoenixville with his garage rock power trio, Mike Matteson & The Sketchy Freaks.
